Dr. Krista Prato Matthews

Originally from the Sacramento area, Dr. Prato Matthews graduated from University of California, Davis with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She practiced for several years in coastal Oregon before returning to the Sacramento region. She has spent the last 2 years working as a relief veterinarian in a variety of settings from general practice to emergency veterinary medicine before committing to joining the team at Campus Commons full time. This has given her a wealth of experience in diverse practice settings to draw from in her new role.

Dr. Prato Matthews is a strong advocate for preventative care (routine vaccinations, parasite prevention, geriatric blood work, etc), believing that if we can stop a problem before there is one, that is always the best option! She has additional special interests in surgery, ophthalmology, and cardiology and is a USDA accredited veterinarian. Her goal is to be an excellent primary care veterinarian and to work as a partner with her clients to keep your pets happy and healthy!

Outside of veterinary medicine Dr. Prato Matthews’s hobbies include reading, travel, backpacking, and sports. She also enjoys spending time with her family and her pets, an Australian Shepherd named Hawking and Watson, a Scottish Fold cat.
